They are actually two variations on the same design, except that one has a small moveable strap placed around the arm band on each side; and the other has a tie strap across the back to allow you to choose how wide you want the straps to be. I thought both looked like flattering styles for my particular shoulders, and I liked the color a lot, as I thought it would be very flattering on my complexion.
These shirts are made of a medium weight jersey fabric (92% cotton, 8% elastane), that retains it's shape very well. I have worn these shirts a lot since I got them because they are flattering, comfortable, and they stay flattering all day long (in fact, I feel like after about an hour of wear the shirts become MORE flattering-- the material conforms to your individual shape without becoming baggy or shapeless, even on long days). They don't lose their shape, and the material feels nice and sturdy.
Of the shirts I got from Urkye, these shirts run the longest, to the lower hip area (keep in mind that I am short, but have a torso slightly on the long side for my height-- petite shirts are frequently a bit too short, while "normal" shirts are just right or slightly long). The length is a little long to be the most flattering on my particular build (shirts that end right at the start of my hip bones are generally the most flattering in length), but it's nice that I don't need to worry about my shirt hiking up, and as I wear the shirts, they wrinkle up a little, in a way that I find flattering. I've tried to illustrate this in the pictures.

This shirt I put on and immediately took pictures (with one of my pairs of slacks, since I think this is probably the more work appropriate of the two shirts, due to the wider sleeves), so the shirt is fresh and hasn't stretched out at all. Note that these shirts do display a little bit of cleavage, at least in a plunge bra (I'm wearing the Freya Deco, a molded plunge bra, in all of these photos). I am totally comfortable wearing these shirts to work, but I may feel differently in an extremely conservative workplace. You can pull the shirt across to hide cleavage, but I think it looks a bit odd, and it doesn't stay, though it might with stitching. One of the things I like about both these shirts' designs is that the straps can be adjusted to suit your individual figure. I tied the strings to keep the straps hitting just where my shoulders end, which I find to be the best arrangement of straps to suit my figure. Women with broader shoulders who prefer to de-emphasize the width could tie the string shorter to keep the straps narrower and not extend the full width of their shoulders, while women who feel that their shoulders are slightly too narrow, could tie the straps a bit wider so the width is slightly exaggerated. The tie is nice for that reason, but not necessary at all to keep the straps from sliding off-- they stay up fine in the other incarnation, and if you really hate tying your shirts (or have shoulder mobility issues and can't tie a knot or bow behind your head), you could probably just chop the tie off and still be able to wear the shirt without worry.

This is the shirt that I wore for about a half an hour doing normal stuff-- sitting, and walking around-- before taking the pictures (at least, the pictures in which I am wearing jeans). I didn't fidget the shirt around in any way before taking the pictures, so this is how the shirt prefers to sit on me after a bit of wear. The narrow bands on the straps can be moved, and I like them to sit right about where my bra cups starts/ the bra strap ends-- I think it's the most flattering configuration on my body. Again, I extend the straps above that to just cap over my shoulders, as I find cap sleeves very flattering.

Once again, I think this has great potential to be flattering on a lot of different builds, especially women who are taller or have longer torsos, and has potential for having a flattering configuration no matter how you feel about your shoulders, or how much emphasis you want to place on your bust. I do have a few minor notes about this design-- and they're not something that I consider major issues, or that has a big effect on the wearability of the shirt (as I've mentioned already, I've worn both of these shirts a bunch since I've received them. They are among the first items I want to wear after washing).
First, the "tubes" as they are so cutely called on the product page, do slowly move through the day, at least on me. I do occasionally move them back to my preferred configuration (I'd estimate every few hours), and it's likely only occurring because I like the slight gathering effect I get at the strap at the top of my bust, so, my bust is exerting a little pressure on the straps to move upward.

Is it a big deal? Probably not. Will it bother some people? I'm sure it will, which is why I'm mentioning it.
All in all, I love these shirts, I absolutely LOVE them. I think they are especially suited to taller busty women, or those who have a long torso. I would definitely recommend either of these for busty women who are looking for attractive sleeveless tops!

Wow, they look amazing on you! And this colour suits you very well.
ReplyDeleteAnd we're very happy that you like dwulicowe :)))
I also wear my dwulicowe very often:D I have 3 (1 spaghetti and 2 tubes) so it's easy to choose what to wear for half of the week;)
Thanks for the comment and the kind compliment, urkye! (I'm planning on getting up at least one more of my planned three Urkye posts for this first order today-- so stay tuned)!
DeleteI really love dwulicowe (I just checked what that translates to in English? Is it duplicitious? That's an unusual name for a shirt, at least not one I've ever seen before! :D), seriously. I can see why you'd have three for sure-- as long as it's warm (and possibly even with an underlayer or a shrug in the winter), I'm sure I will wear them all the time. I'm glad the material feels like it's going to wear really well!
They are named "dwulicowe" (I don't know how to translate it, but I checked your translation and it seems correct;)) because they have two "faces" - basing on the same form, we got different look just by adding tubes or straps. In polish this word has also rather negative repercussion and this is the reason why we decided that it could be quite funny to name our tops in this way :)
DeleteImho this material is excellent, I wear and wash my tops all the time and nothing happened :))) I hope it won't change :D
So far, I have to agree about how well the material washes. I've washed these shirts 3 or 4 times since I got them (I seriously wear them as much as possible), and the material is just like new.
DeleteI think the name is really clever, actually, and it really makes sense too now that I've given it more thought! :D
By the way, muscularhourglass is also, erm, Chloe. I decided to use my first name on here because saying muscularhourglass all the time is kind of clunky.
DeleteYay! I think I'll have to be including the tuba top at least on my next order... Finally a sleeveless shirt that won't show most of my bra! :P
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine, I'm glad it was helpful!
DeleteI have told myself I can't place another Urkye order until they have several new designs that I really want (in particular, a button up shirt without puff sleeves), or else I would seriously be tempted to get a few more colors of this-- although my slight favorite is (by a hair) the spaghetti, just because I never have to worry about it-- once it's on, I'll never have to adjust it again. Great for working in a lab, since there are times when it would be unsafe or potentially contaminating to my work to adjust my clothing.
I seriously love the stuff I've gotten from Urkye, but I know they will come out with new designs and I need to save room in my wardrobe for those, that I might love just as much!
I really love the tuba top especially! Looks absolutely amazing on you and the wrap across the back is a nice touch.
ReplyDeleteThanks June! The tuba seems to be a big favorite-- I do think the neckline is super cute, the tube detail adds a lot to the style!
DeleteThe back is exactly the same cut as the front, minus the extra room to accommodate. :) I also think it's very flattering, and again, a special little touch, but it would probably be less appreciated if you have an issue with back acne.
