Urkye sizing.

I placed an Urkye order on June 12th, and received it within a week of it shipping (which is very fast from Poland, in my experience)!

I ordered strictly based on their measurement chart, I thought if they took the time to make it, especially since it was a brand new company (they opened their website on June 1st), it was probably pretty accurate.

I don't believe in measurement shaming-- we are all different shapes and sizes, and that doesn't make one set of measurements better than another, so I'm just going to share mine. They vary depending on bloating and body composition, but stay in this range (+/- an inch)
Largest bust: 37.5", waist: 27", largest hip: 37.5"
Note: At my most overweight, I had about 9 inches difference between bust/hip and waist. After weight loss it was slightly larger difference, but about the same (i.e. 9.5-10 inches). At 10.5 inches difference now, it turns out that weight training has made me more curvy. Who knew?!

Urkye's size chart is in centimeters, but I've been convert to metric for about 10 years at this point when I started getting a scientific bachelor's degree, so I just whipped out my calculator and converted (2.54 cm = 1 inch).

Since I know not everyone enjoys doing conversions, I converted Urkye's size chart to inches and added it to the chart. I hope Urkye won't mind (even though I work in metric, it's hard completely leaving behind the units you were raised with); but if they are uncomfortable with these images, I will remove them.

So, now it's really easy to see that with a bust measurement of 37.5 inches and a waist of 27 inches, the right size is probably 36ooo for fitted or 36oo/ooo in stretchy shirts.

According to BiuBiu, I was a 36oo (or 36o/oo) so I thought this brand might run a little smaller in the bust. That turned out not to be the case, happily-- based on my experience, I would say it is safe to choose a size based on your waist measurement, even if you are bigger in the bust than the ooo measurement, you will probably be able to fit into the bust comfortably still. That is a nice change from most stores!

I'm going to conclude this post with the clothing I chose, and a bit on why.

Dwulicowa zielona tuba (Green tube sleeveless top)

My BiuBiu order that I had placed recently before this order did not have any sleeveless shirts, and it's been over 100 degrees (Fahrenheit-- approximately 38 degrees Celsius) everyday for over a month already this year.  Sleeveless shirts are the way to go, but most of mine aren't work-appropriate because my bra straps could be visible. The green color in both the sleeveless top looked like a great color for me-- muted cool colors are the most flattering for my coloring. Black is less flattering, heats up faster in the sun, and I enjoy wearing less, so I got both of the sleeveless tops I wanted to try in the same color (at the time, they did not have the same variety of colors in this style-- there was only black and green for these tops. I would definitely have gotten one of these in gray if they had it available at the time).

I thought this top would be very flattering, but possibly a little more risque. I liked that it didn't have ties on the back, because I have a very energetic young cat who will attacks any strings or ties that hang off my clothing in the morning while I get dressed... yes, this is a legitimate concern for me, since I don't like my beautiful clothing to be torn by cat claws.

Dwulicowe zielone spaghetti (Green sleeveless top with back tie)

This style of sleeve is very flattering on me as well, and even though I knew the tie would complicate dressing in the morning, but I thought it might be necessary to prevent the top from sliding too wide or too narrow, since the neckline is so open in the front and the back (I honestly haven't had an issue with that in either top, though).

Groszki latte (Beige polka-dot shirt)

A nice, reasonably conservative top for work. Beige is not always a good color for me, but it looked to be a cool, not-too-pale beige, which is the best for my skin tone. I know a lot of people in the curvy community hate beige, but I'm ambivalent-- it's nice for bras when you want to wear thin tee-shirts, and black is often more harsh for my complexion. I consider it a neutral shade, and a good essential for a work wardrobe, even if it doesn't make my heart sing.

Groszi mocca (Black polka-dot shirt)

I really thought this style would be flattering and great for work, so I got it in black too. I like polka dots.

Kontrast w fuksji (Fuschia button up shirt)

I've got to be honest here, I do not like puffed sleeves-- they typically don't suit my shoulders/ larger arms very well. But, they only had fitted tops with puffed sleeves, and I thought it looked nice enough on the model on the site, so I purchased one to try out the style and see how I liked the fit. I figured if it didn't work I could try to sell it, or alter the sleeves. Fuschia is really not a great color for me either, but I do like color and wanted to give it a try.

Stay tuned for reviews later today!

  1. Good work with this size chart! Obviously we don't mind :) We're also going to add size chart in inches, but we always forget about this :P

    1. I'm so glad you don't mind! It's not really a necessity in the days of online conversions, but it's still convenient to just be able to look and see what size you need. Thanks!
