So, in my last post I featured the three lovely button-down shirts I got from BiuBiu, but actually, my favorite item that I ordered is a knit top-- the Azulejos.
I recently saw a somewhat mixed review on the Azulejos-- I think this print might be a bit too busy for some people's taste, and looks best when worn fairly fitted through the torso, but it was the first "must-have" shirt that went into my cart when I placed my BiuBiu order. I love blue, the color looked like it would be very flattering with my skin tone, and I thought the print would be very flattering, as well.
This shirt made me feel like a million bucks.

I'm fairly short, but with a fairly average (slightly short) torso, and the length was perfect on me. The sleeves are slightly long for three-quarter sleeves, but that's pretty normal for my arms, especially as I've gotten more muscular and my arms have gotten firmer and more shapely.
The only down-side to this shirt is that due to the sleeve length, I haven't gotten to wear it out of the house yet, in the broiling heat we've had this summer. I am really looking forward to cooler temperatures, when I can wear this shirt as often as it is clean.
The final item I ordered from BiuBiu is a dress, the Messina. If you click on the link, you may want to scroll down a bit to look at the reviews on the item. I did that as well, but went by how it fit on the model rather than listening to reviews, since I wore the same size as the model, I thought it would look similar on me.
On the other hand, as I review the pictures on the website again, I can see how they can be a little misleading-- the picture from the back has the model's backside hidden by a wooden railing. In the full length front picture, she has her arms close to her side, which makes it more difficult to see that...
This dress is really fitted. I'd almost describe it as a wiggle dress, or a pin-up style dress. It is quite flattering, nonetheless, but it's not something you should buy unless you are very confident in your body and don't mind showing off your curves.
I make a genuine effort to appreciate myself for who I am, but by nature, I do like to keep everything reasonably concealed and modest (I generally go by the top or bottom rule-- low cut top = full coverage pants or longer skirt. Tight or short bottoms = looser and/ or high cut top)-- so I'm a little uncomfortable in this dress. My fiance, on the other hand, thinks this dress is amazing. Judge for yourself.

| HELLLLLLLO hiney! |
(Apologies for the lighting in these pictures-- flash gives this material a sheen that is not seen in real life, and I thought the darker pictures were more representative of the actual appearance in real life).

The lower portion of the dress clings all the way through about mid thigh, and minimalist underwear is required to avoid panty lines.I decided to keep the dress ultimately, but I think I will be more likely to wear it if I manage to decrease my body fat percentage at some point. This definitely was a lesson in learning to pay attention to the reviews on the website, though I do think it's very flattering, this dress is a bit too "attention-grabbing" for my personal comfort.
Coming soon, a review of my Urkye order! (I'm going crazy on Polish companies)!

You've got a great figure and all the items look awesome on you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Astrid!
DeleteI hate the pattern of the Azulejos top fullstop so I can't comment on whether it's flattering or not, but the cut and fit of it is very flattering on you.
ReplyDeleteThe light in your dress photos is definitely not the best, but from what I can see the dress looks very nice on you. I don't think it's too clingy (perhaps for a conservative office job).
Thank you for the comment, contrary kiwi!
DeleteI can definitely see how the Azulejos pattern would not have wide appeal-- honestly, when I pulled it out of the package at first, I wasn't so sure myself. It has a "pixelated" appearance in person, and the pattern is so... vivid, and large. But the fit was enough to make me love the shirt, and I actually think diagonal lines in a pattern (especially chevron style) are flattering on many people.
Thanks for the positive comment on the dress, I don't think the full effect of the clingyness is visible in pictures, though I tried my best (I probably took 50 pictures with self-timer in various lighting conditions and rooms in an attempt to get something that looked true to life). Honestly, it might just be my own comfort level regarding revealing clothes, rather than unusual tightness. I've certainly seen much clingier and shorter items on other women without giving it a second thought.
