Urkye order-- final part-- button up shirt and dress!

The final item that I purchased in my first Urkye order was the Kontrast w fuksji in size 36ooo. This was an item that didn't exactly call my name, for a number of reasons, but I really wanted to try out their button down shirts to compare to BiuBiu's (which I reviewed here), and sometimes I'll try on something that I'm not sure about, and I end up loving it! So I ordered one anyway, and hoped for the best.

The reasons I wasn't so sure the shirt were threefold: the sleeves, the color, and.. the black contrast piping, to be honest (this could just be me, but it reminds me of... clowns.)

1. In general, I like my shoulders, though they are slightly narrow-- with weight training, I feel like they have more presence, and since my hips also aren't very wide, I think they are reasonably balanced and proportionate, in general.
That said, I am not really a fan of puff sleeves on me because I have thick arms and legs-- it's just how my body is built. With weight training, they've gotten firmer, more muscular, and shapely, which I like-- but they would be fairly large in proportion, even if I never lifted anything over 10 pounds. I am not a slender limbed person, and I've made my peace with that.

The model on the Urkye site has slender arms, though, so I thought, "It looks quite nice on her, maybe these puff sleeves will look okay," without giving much thought to the differences in our builds.

2. The color is nice and bold, it's just not a color that suits me. I don't wear a lot of pink because it's not one of my favorite colors-- but if I wear pink, pale pinks (especially slightly warm pale pinks, what I call "shell pink"), are really the way to go-- it's very flattering to my complexion. That said, I do LIKE bold colors, and I thought if it looked nice otherwise, I would wear it.

3. The piping I would probably like in a different color (a light teal blue with chocolate brown piping I would probably like, for instance)-- but the reason I didn't get the white version of this shirt is because... again, maybe this is just some weird association that I came up with, but white shirts with black piping and black buttons inevitably evokes "CLOWN" for me.

Now that I've dithered at great length on why I wasn't sure this shirt would work for me, on to the pictures!

Looking at it in pictures, I don't think it looks too bad, though I don't think the style or myself are especially flattered. But I knew I would absolutely never wear it, and I did not feel good about how I looked in real life (my fiance's reaction was similar). My arms are just too big to pull off this style, I think. Luckily, the great Boosaurus and I realized we were very similar in size, and I was able to pass it on to her! Much more flattering on her lovely, slender arms.

Unfortunate bump at stomach
because it needs ironing.
Now, on to the good (and there really is a lot of good, too)-- the fit was great, and it felt like it had a lot of style potential! I felt like there was a little more "ease" built into these shirts compared to BiuBiu, which made it really comfortable, and removed concerns that it might shrink a bunch in the dryer, because even so there would still be room. The fabric felt great on and durable, and was totally opaque. The sleeves were really the only reason I passed on this shirt, as I definitely could have found a way to work with the color, even if it isn't the best for my skin.

Back to Boosaurus-- we placed Urkye orders near the same time, and she got the Turkus w kiesce dress in 36o/oo (I passed, since I was uncertain about the puff sleeves again and didn't want to get two items I wasn't sure I'd wear on my first order-- not to mention that pockets on dresses are great in theory, but have historically looked very odd on me). Boosaurus found that it wasn't the best fit for her strongly curved short torso, and after seeing how fantastic it looked on Bras I Hate (though I've got more junk in my trunk and I think my waist is larger), and giving it more thought, I decided I would not be able to stop thinking about it until I tried it out myself-- so another swap occurred.

The material for the pocket dress (I am guessing the name translated means turquoise with pockets) is a thick jersey material-- 30% viscose and 70% polyester-- it feels like a thicker material than the sleeveless tops, and I actually find it to be a touch warm (not sweaty, but warm). I agree with Bras I hate that the pocket design is kind of genius-- it nicely adds a bit of space and camouflages the lower stomach area, which makes it a lot more flattering from the side.

The sleeves are not as puffy as the sleeves on the kontrast shirts, in my opinion. However, I initially felt that the length of the sleeves doesn't work well for me (I am much shorter than the model, and I have somewhat short arms-- T. rex arms, if you will, which makes the sleeves look longer in proportion). These sleeves are a length that extend to just past the apex of my bustline, and combined with my rather thick arms, I thought it might make me look wider and bustier. But, after looking at these pictures longer, I actually think it might look pretty good as is-- does anyone else have an opinion? I had an idea of altering the length to make it more cap-sleeved, but I'm not sure if it's worth doing or not.
Low socks

When I tried on this dress and showed it to my fiance, he immediately said I should try my knee high boots with it. (Unfortunately, this resulted in a huge number of pictures because I wanted to show how it looks with different lengths and thicknesses of socks and tights).

Tights
That said-- Yes. Combined with the material (which, again, feels warm and cozy to me) I think this is going to be a great dress for spring, fall, and winter, coupled with boots, knee high socks and tights. I haven't tried this dress outside yet (I won't be doing boots for a while, but I could do the dress with sandals), because we have had a terrible heat wave (now with humidity!), and it's been over 100 degrees Fahrenheit / 38 degrees Celsius far too often for me to want to risk a potentially over-warm outfit for the day.

Thigh high wool socks
Tights
The pocket on this side drape
more loosely, and look a little
different from the side. I think it
will be fixed with a wash.
All in all, I'm very pleased with Urkye, and I'll definitely be ordering again once my budget has recovered a bit from the spending I've been doing lately (and they have new stock, since I own almost all of their current line that I'm interested in)!

  1. Ahh, the dress is so cute on you! And you don't get the wrinkling issue! :D I'll link back to this post so people can see the contrast. I love how we were able to trade things around to get what worked best for us! :)

I was definitely unsure about the purple color/sleeves/black piping of the button down shirt, too, by the way. I don't really like things that I think make me stand out much! But I think it just took a bit of getting used to for me and realizing that the shape just worked really well for me, and now I don't mind it. It's probably good for me to get out of my comfort zone a bit, ha :P
I'm considering getting the white one now, too - and I thought I would never have a white button-down that worked for me!

    1. Yes, I totally agree!

You rock that shirt, Christine! It's an item that I think can really lend a lot of style to a standard combination. That's why I was willing to try it out, because I've been really surprised lately by some of the things that I ended up liking and wearing all the time (like that white skirt I have on with the button up shirt, actually)!

  2. It's nice to read your next review:)

I won't comment colour and puffs of shirt;)) But the fit is excellent, so I hope you'll like our new styles:)
Kieska (you're right, this word is connected with pockets) looks very nice on you:) I like this combination with knee high boots:D

    1. The color and puffs are great for some people (not everyone is just like me, thank goodness), but I don't think they were the best for me, personally. Looking at this shirt in pictures, I think it looks okay on me, but I felt strongly that it was not a good look when I was trying it on in front of a mirror.

I really think the boots are great with the dress! Looking forward to fall...
